Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Data Science

The George Mason University, College of Science invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Data Science position in the School of Physics, Astronomy, and Computational Sciences (SPACS).

This is a tenure-track position with an emphasis on "Big Data" and is scheduled to start in August 2014. Possible areas of expertise include computational statistics and machine learning, optimization and large-scale computation, and system design for large-scale data science.

Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree related to statistical or machine learning (data science) with applications to physical science or engineering. Degrees in a similar field compatible with existing SPACS programs will also be considered if research interests are aligned with data science, and the candidate has experience using data science techniques as a research tool. Postdoctoral work experience in data science is preferred.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, externally-funded research program, and be able to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more of our degree programs. The candidate will also be expected to establish collaborative relationships with other groups to complement or enhance the diverse set of research programs within SPACS.
