[Wrf-users] single installation of WRF

Thanks for sharing guys! It really helps. I was hoping that an environment variable existed and I was just missing something.

What I'm doing in our environment is build a module for both wps and wrf. So uses just have to load the module to get access to wrf or wps. But if I still have to link static files fr the run directory that's not going to help much.

I'll look at scripting it out so it'll be easier on users.

My prior answer was incomplete. In running WPS on the workstation, we ALSO have a version of WRF installed there but only for the purpose of getting WPS to run. We run WRF on another computer.

We also install WRF and WPS under /usr/local, e.g. /usr/local/src/wrf/WRFV3.x.y. /usrl/local is auto-mounted across our HPC cluster, and each user specifies which version they want in their submit script by using the absolute path.

You do need to be careful about all the files in the WRFV3/run directory, but we just create soft links to each required file. Wouldn’t it be nice if WRF used an environment variable like $WRFRUN to know where to get these static files?

Actually, it does. We run WPS on a workstation and transfer the output to an HPC resource. They are completely separable.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone put WRF and WPS into a module? I’m looking at this now and it seems as though it doesn’t lend itself to being placed outside of user space and in a more centralized filesystem – such as /usr or /opt.

If anyone is willing to share how they support or share the software with multiple users on a HPC – that would be most welcomed.
