[Wrf-users] unable to understand control file of WPP

Hi wrfhelp, 
 
I am confused reg the wrf_cntr_parm file. 
the WPP/UPP Doc says that if U want the o/p of a variable, then one has to Change 
 
(SFC WIND GUST       ) SCAL=( 3.0)
 L=(00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000)

TO the following. 
(SFC WIND GUST       ) SCAL=( 3.0)
 L=(10000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000)

 
bash-3.2$ cat wrf_cntrl.parm | egrep "L=\(" | wc -l
     482
bash-3.2$ cat wrf_cntrl.parm | egrep "L=\(1" | wc -l
     107
bash-3.2$

so what I want to know is, when I run run_wrfpost, how many variables will I get in my o/p, ie. in the WRFPRS files. 
 
 
In my present case, I am getting 
 
1-318 RECORDS.
