Dear wrf users,
Please feel free to forward the following notice to potential candidates. The position will be open at CRC/Biogeosciences lab, Dijon France.
Many thanks,
Job location and provisional date of taking office:
Dijon – France, 18 months (with a possible extension to 24 months depending on the net salary fixed) post-doc position available in January 2013.
Context and contribution of the position:
The work, supported by the GICC (Program Management and Impacts of Climate Change), will be carried out in close collaboration with other research groups involved in the HYCCARE-Bourgogne project (Alterre, Agroécologie, Listo, CESAER, BRGM, Water agencies, ...). The project aims in documenting vulnerability to the likely impacts of climate change on water resource. Successful adaptation strategies require, as an essential foundation, both scientifically sound and credible high resolution projections of key climatic variables, and the means to make these projections available and relevant to the needs of water resources modelers, planners, managers and policymakers.
The work will consist to enable an integrate approach, from climate projections up to hydrologic modeling to assess the potential impacts future climate change on droughts severity, river discharge and recharge of aquifers. Specific objectives will be:
1) downscalling (with ARW/WRF) the CMIP5 (RCP 2.6 and 8.5) global data-model (Arpege-Climat) for the 21st century;
2) quantifying and reducing the bias (rain) for observed climate at regional scale;
3) analysing the climate change impact on the surface climatology of Burgundy for the production of credible inputs for hydrologic and hydro-geologic model.
Training – Experience:
Candidate should hold a PhD in either climatology, geosciences, environmental physics or a related field with proven experiences in handling modeling tools, data handling and data-model interactions.
Skills and knowledge required:
Strong skills in climatology and regional climate models downscaling analysis.
Proven experience with the ARW/WRF model is absolutely essential.
Knowledge of NetCDF data formats including analysis tools (e.g. NCL, NCO, CDO) in combination with large data volumes is mandatory.
Strong scientific computing skills using scripting language (e.g. Matlab, R) in standard Linux operating environments on clusters.
Multidisciplinary and transverse vision of issues related to hydrology and water ressources is an added advantage.
Ability to synthesize and writing in English and excellent relational and taste for teamwork.
Salary
The net salary per month is between 2000€ and 2400€. It is determined based on professional experience and skill.
Application
Interested candidates should send a cover letter, a current CV, and professional references to Thierry Castel (tcastel at u-bourgogne.fr), Yves Richard (yrichard at u-bourgogne.fr) and Philippe Amiotte-Suchet (philippe.amiotte-suchet at u-bourgogne.fr) by October 31st, 2012.
