[Wrf-users] Meaning of "verical bar" in WRF Registry?

Hello All,

 

Does anyone know the meaning of a vertical bar (or "pipe") symbol in the
<Dim> column of WRF state variables?

 

Usually this column includes 'ikj' to denote the size of the computational
domain.  Occasionally <Dim> can also be 'l' corresponding to the number of
soil layers. I would like to make a state variable that has dimensions 1x1
how is this done?
