[Wrf-users] Domain Wizard and hyperbolic tangent stretching

Hi Milivoj,

Several people have asked me this question, so I am posting this information to the WRF users list.

I obtained permission from the OU-CAPS group to port the vertical coordinate stretching algorithm from the ARPS model (still an excellent, accessible, very well written NWP model) for use with WRF as part of the NSF LEAD cyberinfrastructure project.

I converted the Fortran algorithms to Java, then worked with Jeff "Gandalf" Smith at NOAA/ESRL, who incorporated it into the WRF Domain Wizard.

Documentation on the stretching algorithms is available from the ARPS model web site:

http://www.caps.ou.edu/ARPS/arpsdown.html

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Craig
