Dear wrf-users,

The Earth Sciences Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center –
Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) invites applications for a
Postdoctoral Scientist in ATMOSPHERIC-COMPUTER sciences. The BSC-CNS
(http://www.bsc.es/) is the National Supercomputer Facility in Spain
which hosts one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe and the
world. The mission of BSC-CNS is to investigate, develop and manage
information technology in order to facilitate scientific progress. With
this objective, it has been taken special dedication to areas such as
Deep Computing and e-sciences. The Earth Sciences Department of the
BSC-CNS has as main topics of research: air quality (photochemical and
aerosol pollution); climate change (feedback with air quality and
radiative forcing); and global and regional modelling of desert dust. We
are seeking applicants for:

Area: Earth Sciences

Vacancy:
Postdoctoral Scientist in ATMOSPHERIC-COMPUTER sciences -Consolider
project- Optimization of atmospheric codes (Earth Sciences)

Reference:
PSDConsolider-1 (ES)

Despite the Earth System Modeling codes are currently implemented in
high-performance computing infrastructures, a major challenge lies in
the efficient use of a large number of processors for applications at
high resolution; therefore an important work is needed in the
improvement of parallel performance of the codes. The candidate will
contribute to optimize WRF(meteorology)/CMAQ(chemistry transport) codes
in a massively parallel infrastructure and will prepare such codes for
next generation supercomputers.

Requirements:

    * Have a PhD degree in one of the following areas: Computer Science
      in atmospheric physics, Physics/Meteorology or Environmental Science.
    * Proven expertise in the application and validation of atmospheric
      models.
    * Previous experience in parallel computing environments will be
      appreciated.
    * Excellent computing skills (FORTRAN, C, LINUX/UNIX).
    * Experience in optimization of parallel codes.
    * Experience in atmospheric physics is strongly recommended.
    * High level in English.

Personal abilities:

    * Work both independently and in a team
    * Skills in presentation techniques and a good publication record
    * Open-minded

All applications should contain:

A presentation letter (please indicate your salary requirements)
Your C.V with contact data

Deadline: 30 May 2008

Please submit your applications to the following email address,
indicating the offer reference (PSDConsolider-1 (ES)) in the subject
