Hi tgcmgroup:
The Data Analysis Services Group (DASG) of CISL has released
a series of high-end servers (HP systems running Linux)
for data-postprocessing and visualization. These machines
will replace tempest, which will be decommissioned this spring.
I think anyone with a tempest account should now be able to
access these systems.
Please see http://www.cisl.ucar.edu/hss/dasg for information,
especially the "Quick Start Guide". The systems we are most
likely to use are gale, gust, and breeze (altho gust is down
at the moment).
To login to gale, use "ssh -X gale.scd.ucar.edu" (or -Y).
You will need your cryptocard. Once logged in, you may find they
have copied your .cshrc file from tempest. If so, you should save
it, and copy either mine (~foster/.tcshrc), or copy the skeleton
file /fs/local/skel/.tcshrc to get started. More info is in the
Quick Start Guide. The TGCM env vars are as follows:
$TGCMROOT = /hao/tgcm/tgcm
$TGCMDATA = /hao/tgcm/data
Note that TGCMROOT is different but TGCMDATA is the same as
on other CISL machines. See ~foster/.tshrc for how to set these
and add related directories ($TGCMROOT/bin.Linux) to your path
env var.
I have built and installed the following in $TGCMROOT/bin.Linux:
empproc (empirical model processor)
tgcmproc_f90 (f90 processor, single resolution)
tgcmproc_dres_f90 (f90 processor, double resolution)
tgcmproc_idl (IDL GUI processor)
utproc (IDL GUI ut time processor)
One nice thing about their disk setup is that the /ptmp disks
for both blueice and bluevista are accessible from these machines
(cd to /biptmp or /bvptmp). So we can now read files on these
disks directly w/ IDL, without copying them to other systems.
I have not built any TGCM model on these machines, since they
are meant primarilly for post-processing and visualization.
