Hello all,
Below is information about a post-doc opportunity, working with me, Hugo Lambert (Exeter), Romain Roehrig (Météo France), Judith Berner (NCAR), and the Model Uncertainty-MIP consortium (https://mumip.web.ox.ac.uk) on understanding model error.
Please share with any suitable candidates!
All the best,
Hannah Christensen

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Atmospheric Physics
Department of Physics, Clarendon Laboratory, Parks Road, Oxford
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Atmospheric Physics.
This project seeks to understand the nature of model error in weather and climate models. The successful applicant will play a central role in the University of Oxford’s contribution to the international “Model Uncertainty – Model Intercomparison Project” (MU-MIP), led by Hannah Christensen, and endorsed by the World Weather and World Climate Research Programmes.
The successful candidate will undertake independent research and participate in the academic life of the Atmospheric Processes group and the AOPP sub-department. Key duties include (i) producing simulations using the ECMWF single column model, following the MU-MIP experimental protocol. (ii) investigating the statistics of random model error using the MU-MIP database of simulations. (iii) thereby critically assessing the foundations of widely used stochastic parametrisations.
Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining, a doctorate in physics, climate science, or a related field.
Previous experience in the field of stochastic parametrisations or weather and climate modelling will be an advantage.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
Please direct enquiries about the role to Hannah Christensen. (hannah.christensen at physics.ox.ac.uk)
Only applications received before midday 31 March 2023 can be considered. You will be required to upload a brief statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
