Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Atmospheric Physics

Department of Physics, Clarendon Laboratory, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PU


The successful candidate will undertake independent research and participate in the academic life of the Atmospheric Processes group and the AOPP sub-department. Key duties include (i) using a database of analysis increments to measure the upscale dynamical tendencies associated with MCS, that are missing from current models; (ii) designing a stochastic perturbation strategy to capture upscale impacts associated with MCS, and implementing the parametrisation in the Met Office Unified Model (MetUM); (iii) producing and analysing simulations using the MetUM to test the MCS parametrisation.

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining, a doctorate in physics, climate science, or a related field.

Previous experience in the field of weather or climate modelling will be an advantage.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
