Good morning,

The deadline for submitting abstracts for the Fourth Symposium on the Joint
Center for Satellite Data Assimilation as part of the American
Meteorological Society 96th Annual Meeting has been extended to August 26,
2015. The Call for Papers is provided below for reference. To submit an
abstract please visit:

*2016 AMS Annual Meeting Proposed Call for Papers:*

Fourth Symposium on the Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation, 10–14
January 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana

The Fourth Symposium on the Joint Center for Satellite Data
Assimilation, sponsored by the American Meteorological Society, and
organized by the AMS Committee on Satellite Meteorology, Oceanography, and
Climatology, will be held 10–14 January 2016, as part of the 96th AMS
Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Preliminary programs,
registration, hotel, and general information will be posted on the AMS Web
site (http://www.ametsoc.org/meet/annual/) in late-September 2015.

The theme for the 2016 AMS Annual Meeting, “*Earth System
Science in Service to Society*”, weaves the many parts of AMS into a common
core. Emphasizing the academic and research strength of AMS, the theme also
connects that research to the benefits that society gains from our science.
AMS merges the physical, chemical, and biological study of the Earth with
human-centered “domains of action”: (1) Observing, (2) Analysis and
research leading to understanding, (3) Modeling and prediction, and (4)
Social sciences – how people deal with Earth. “Service to Society”
explicitly evokes the integrated and complementary government and
commercial enterprise that the AMS has done so much to foster over the last
decade. The 2016 meeting integrates AMS’ proud, nearly 100-year history of
making a positive difference in the lives of our citizens by continually
communicating the advances of its science research to the public and policy
makers.

Papers for this Symposium are solicited on:

· Impact assessments for satellite data assimilated in numerical
prediction modeling systems

· Advancements in radiative transfer modeling and surface
emissivity modeling to support assimilation of satellite radiance data

· Preparation for the assimilation of observations from
next-generation operational and research satellites in numerical weather
prediction modeling systems.

· Observation System Simulation Experiments to quantitatively
assess the capability of potential new satellite sensors to improve
numerical weather prediction.

· The assimilation of satellite data to improve land surface,
ocean, and air quality analyses and models.

Please contact the program chairpersons (contact information noted below)
by *1 May 2015* if you would like to propose a session topic for this
conference.

The $95 abstract fee includes the submission of your abstract, the posting
of your extended abstract, and the uploading and recording of your
presentation which will be archived on the AMS Web site.

Please submit your abstract electronically via the Web by *26 August 2015*
(refer to the AMS Web page at http://www.ametsoc.org/meet/online_submit.html
). An abstract fee of $95 (payable by credit card or purchase order) is
charged at the time of submission (refundable only if abstract is not
accepted).

Authors of accepted presentations will be notified via e-mail
by late-September 2015. All extended abstracts are to be submitted
electronically and will be available on-line via the Web. Instructions for
formatting extended abstracts will be posted on the AMS Web site. Authors
have the option to submit manuscripts (up to 10 MB) electronically by *12
February 2016*. All abstracts, extended abstracts and presentations will
be available on the AMS Web site at no cost.
