Tenure Track Faculty Position in Synoptic Meteorology

Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences/University at Albany, SUNY.


The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (DEAS) of the University at 
Albany, State University of New York, seeks applicants for a tenure-track 
faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, effective Fall 2007. This is 
a 10-month appointment that allows supplementary summer salary from research 
funding. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the 
responsibilities of a full-time faculty member in the DEAS (specifically the 
Atmospheric Science program) which includes (i) teaching at undergraduate and/or 
graduate levels, (ii) maintaining a strong externally funded research program, 
(iii) mentoring and supervision of graduate students and (iv) participating, as 
necessary, in all service and programmatic activities of the Department, College 
and University. 
	Qualified candidates must have a doctorate in atmospheric science, 
meteorology, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited 
by a US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting 
organization. They are expected to provide evidence that they can teach with 
distinction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and be an effective mentor 
of graduate students. Applicants must also address in their applications their 
abilities to work with and instruct culturally diverse populations.  They must 
demonstrate ability to build and maintain a strong, externally funded research 
program. 
	Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in synoptic or 
mesoscale data analysis or numerical weather prediction, and with a strong 
background in dynamic meteorology.  However, candidates whose research 
specialization complements existing research programs in the department are also 
encouraged to apply.
