Dear colleagues,
The purpose of this message is to solicit applications for the NCAR
Science Advisor position. This position was created to serve as a link
between NCAR management and NCAR scientists, to represent the NSA on the
NCAR Executive Committee and Directors' Committee, and to provide advice
to the NCAR Directorate regarding issues that affect NCAR research
activity and its staff. This is a half-time position, funded by the
Director's Office. The Science Advisor must be a member of the NSA who
does not currently hold an upper management position (such as Division
Director or above). While not required, applications from Senior
Scientists or Senior Research Engineers are most desirable. A full
description of the Science Advisor position can be found at
http://www.ncar.ucar.edu/nsa/advisor.php. For you information, the names
of the past Science Advisors are list below:
Phil Judge (February 2009-March 2010)
Mitch Moncrieff (February 2008- February 2009)
Anne Smith (December 2006- January 2008)
Piotr Smolarkiewicz (November 2005-December 2006)
Joe Tribbia (October 2004-November 2005)
The current Science Advisor, David Edwards of ACD, will be completing
his term at the end of February. If you or someone you know who is
interested in learning more about this job, please contact us or your
divisional representatives on the NSA Executive Committee. If you have
any specific questions on what the job may entail, David would be happy
to offer his insights. To apply, please send us a short statement (1~2
paragraphs) on your qualifications and why you would like to serve in
this capacity, along with a copy of your CV. The application deadline is
February 18, 2011. We will start the selection process shortly after
that date until the position is filled.
Thanks for your attention, and we hope you will consider applying for
this very important position.
Sincerely,
