[ncl-install] Can't Open Display

Felipe,
This is a common problem, and the debugging strategy is not well
documented. NCL needs a working X11 system with a correct DISPLAY variable
setting for direct graphics display on your terminal screen.
You can bypass this need in NCL, by using alternate output devices such as
png, ps, and pdf. All of these create graphics output files, rather than
displaying directly on the terminal. Then you can use alternate display
software to display the png, ps, and pdf files on your terminal.
However, it is very useful to have X11 working correctly. I am not an
expert. But similar questions about X11 were recently discussed on this
mailing list. I suggest that you look through the last month or two of the
mailing list archives for X11 debugging strategy and possible solutions.
