Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------
Good morning,
My name is Jordan Rabinowitz and I am a meteorologist with the National
Weather Service Eastern Region Headquarters office.
As part of a project I am currently working on, I am looking to gain access
to the METviewer through the following webpage:
https://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/users/verification/global/gfs/ops/metviewer_metexpress_howto/
.
However, when I try to connect to the server with my NOAA e-mail account
credentials, I am presented with an internal server error message.
I was wondering if this is a common issue or if this is something that is
more easily resolvable.
I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Until then, happy holidays!
Best,
Jordan

Hi Jordan,
I see you have a question about gaining access to this instance of
METviewer:
https://metviewer.nws.noaa.gov/
You're prompted for a username and password. And you note that your
NOAA
credentials do not work. While members of our team did help NOAA/EMC
setup
that instance of METviewer, we don't manage access to it. The
username/password to be entered there is a shared one known to many
NOAA
and DTC staff, including me. But I am not sure how EMC staff want this
to
be handled.
So I've cc'ed Perry Shafran and Mallory Row on this email. They are at
NOAA/EMC, and I'm hoping they can advise on when/how they'd like
access to
that instance of METviewer to be granted.
Perry and Mallory, how should we proceed?
Thanks,
John Halley Gotway

Hi, John,
My initial reaction is that he should be granted access, but I can't
say
for sure whether it is a good idea or even if that decision can be
made at
our level. We may need to ask Jason his opinion as to whether we
should
grant access to users outside of EMC and DTC.
I'm interested to hear Mallory's thoughts on this as well.
Thanks!
Perry

I was under the impression that METviewer was available to all NOAA
users,
and METexpress was open to all. I'm not sure why it wouldn't allow him
to
log in.

Jordan,
Sounds like the intention IS for all NOAA users to have access to that
instance of METviewer.
I'll email you directly with the shared username/password that I know
works. And I'll follow up with EMC and the METviewer developers to see
if
they can make it possible to sign in with your NOAA credentials.
Thanks,
John

Subject: Issue with accessing METviewer through EMC website
From: Jordan Rabinowitz - NOAA Federal
Time: Mon Dec 28 06:47:30 2020
John et al.,
Good morning.
I would first like to thank you all for getting back to me so quickly
on
this matter during this 2020 holiday season.
I will also note that I cannot speak for any NOAA users beyond myself,
but
I certainly believe that it could be helpful for many individuals from
across the NWS network to have access to this platform (if they do not
already) for various research purposes.
I appreciate your collective feedback and your willingness to share
access
to this instance of METviewer with both myself and my colleagues from
NWS
ER SSD.
Thank you again for your assistance and I look forward to hearing any
follow-up from EMC and the METview developers in the coming days.
Happy holidays!
Best,
Jordan
