Hi

I am trying to run METv6.1 point_stat() with probabilistic forecast file in
GRIB2 format as fcst

and 6 hr accumulated precipitation in netcdf file format as observation. 

The grib2 file has probabilities of 6 hour accumulated precip > 0.25"
(QP025).

However when point_stat() is run it complains "Unrecognized GRIB 1 field
abbreviation 'QP025' for table version 2.

Not sure what to do with it!

I am attaching my config file, the error log, and a non-standard grib_table
that is used.

Suseela,

It sounds like you're not able to get MET to read the QP025 variable
from
your input forecast file.

Thanks for sending your config file and log.  Whenever I'm trying to
read
new data into MET, I always step back and use the plot_data_plane tool
to
make sure that MET is able to read the data.  I'd suggest doing that
in
this case as well.

But the first thing to note is that MET doesn't know about the GRIB2
table
you're using "grib2_geps.txt".  Make sure that you've set the
MET_GRIB_TABLES environment variable to point to either the directory
containing that file or the explicit filename itself.  Search the
User's
Guide for MET_GRIB_TABLES for a longer description.

Once we're able to get a plot from plot_data_plane for this data, we
can
use the same settings in Point-Stat.

Hi John,
Thank you. Problem solved. The config file had field name "QP025"
instead of "APCP" for obs.
The plot_data_plane experiment certainly helped.
