Hello. Does MetViewer currently have the capability of averages of a
time series, say annual (or monthly) averages of a daily score?
Something like the attached (annual averages of daily GFS fractions
skill score, at 25mm/day and 62km horizontal scale, from the FVS). Just
wondering. Thanks!

Hi Ying,
Yes, METViewer will do averages (or medians or sums) of scores. You
probably want to use the series plot for this, and near the bottom
left in the Statistics section you can choose which function to apply
(mean, median, or sum). However, I would caution you about averaging
scores. For some it makes sense, and for others it does not.

Thanks Tressa. I posed the question poorly - what I meant to ask was,
is there a way to make a time series plot from daily stats (e.g.
contingency table counts) were the scores are computed from stats
aggregated over a certain time period (say monthly)? Attached are 1)
and 2) daily GSS scores from daily stats - png and xml from MetViewer,
for 1 Jun - 31 Aug 2016 and 3) FVS plot of monthly aggregated scores.
Is there a way to do such monthly/annual aggregation in MetViewer? I
see the "Statistics" box on the lower-left of MetViewer and usually
choose "Aggregation statistics", but there doesn't seem to be an
option
of choosing to aggregate over a longer time period when plotting a
time
series. Is this not yet an option in MetViewer?
Thanks again -
Ying

Hi Ying,
METViewer is agnostic about the groups of cases it accumulates over.
It
just summarizes over all values that share an identical independent
variable value (i.e. the x-axis value). So if your database had a
variable
called "YYYYMM" that could be placed on the x-axis, all database lines
(say
each day of that month) sharing the same YYYYMM would be accumulated
(or
averaged). So yes, this can be done in METViewer now, but you may need
to
adjust your database values accordingly (it won't calculate the YYYYMM
for
you from the date field).
Tatiana, please correct me if I have it wrong.
