  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I have truble with the GRIB-table in the met-5.2 version

In the attached file I have send a TP parameter:
In my Config file I have set:

GRIB1_center=98;
GRIB1_subcenter=0;
GRIB1_ptv =128;

....
fcst = {
   field = [
      {
        name       = "TP";
        level      = [ "A24" ];
        cat_thresh = [ >0.1, >=5.0 ];
      }
   ];
}
... I've got the error:

unrecognized GRIB1 field abreviation TP for table version 128
I've read the latest doc...
My question:
How can manage grib table to use ?

Thank you very much for yours help

O. Diaconu,

I see that you're having trouble accessing the total precipitation
(TP)
variable from your ECMWF GRIB file. Thanks for sending the sample
data
file for testing. That helped a lot.

You've found a bug in the MET code. The good news is that it's very
easy
to fix since it's just a typo in a data file. Please take a look in
this
file:

   met-5.2/data/table_files/grib1_ecmwf_128_98.txt

The 3rd column of that file has the number "7" but it should be "98"
instead (which is the ECMWF center number).

I've attached an updated version of that file which includes the
correction. You can use it to replace your current version. **BUT**
you'll need to rerun "make install" after you fix this file. When you
run
"make install", these runtime data files are copied over to the
installation directory where they are read at runtime. So you'll
still get
the error until you run "make install".

After fixing this, I was able to plot your data by running:
met-5.2/bin/plot_data_plane \
   tp24_20160611_30_s.grb \
   tp24_20160611_30_s.ps \
   'name="TP"; level="Z0";'

And I've attached the resulting image. This update will be included
in the
next set of bugfixes for met-5.2.

Sorry for the bug but thanks for finding it!

Thanks,
John Halley Gotway

From: Otilia Diaconu

Hi John,

Thanks you very much for your help.
I think that I had 2 errors: the table and the level:

In fact in the DOC , it's write that for "accumulation field", in my
case
24 h precipitation, the level is "ANNN". So I have use A24 and not
"Z0"

No ..It's OK for two of the models that I have to verify: ECMWF and
COSMO

I have to use for verification 4 models, each of them has a different
parameter name and, of course, use a different GRIB table.

 [...Some years ago ( may be 2 ) I have asked the same question and
you
answer me.. and you have explained, how to find the table
version...(using
wgrib -PDS10 ) I've found yours answer in my Emails and I have tried
to use
it....but .. I didn't succeed with the new version of met....]

I have see that in the met-5.2 version you have add the table version
for
ECMWF and DWD models and also the possibility to use the "USER" table
( in
our case ARPEGE and ALADIN table)

So, if it is the case, the GRIB table from DWD model has 78 in a
third
column.
For the other 2 models.. I've tried to see if I have some GRIB tables
from
my colleagues.

Thank you again for yours help, and I wish you all the best for you
and
for  "MET team".

OK, so I'm a little unclear. Are you still having issues using the 4
different types of GRIB files or have you figured it out?

If you experience issues, please post sample data files to our
ananoymous
ftp site with the following instructions and send me a description of
what
you're trying to accomplish.

Thanks

Hi John,
I have, in oper. mode 4 different models to verify. The GRIB tables
available in met are only for ECMWF and COSMO model ( using dwd
table). For
ARPEGE and ALARO models...there are not GRIB table but "met-5.2" can
use
the table from center 7 ...so, the problem is solved.
I have run today one test using all forecasts from all models.
Thank you very much for your precious help
Otilia
