  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Mr. or Mrs,,
Thanks for your help again.

Now, I came across the differences from whether positive or negative
longitude would be used in the to_grid option.
For negative lon, I mean, say, 220 degree is represented as -140 degree.

The same test data is in
theia: /home/Ting.Lei/tmp/dr-debug/lei_data_20161026.

For MET 5.2, Jacob just installed on theia,
they would give some minor differences:
Like in the stat file,
the first CTC has the number 669054 for positive longitude used
( RGD='"lambert 959 867 25.819 -103.807 -105.000 1.270 6371.2 25.000
25.000"') and 673085 (RGD='"lambert 959 867 25.819 256.193 265.000 1.270
6371.2 25.000 25.000"')

(For, seemingly the plot_data_plane is not available, I paused for
furthering digging and bring this to your attention. Maybe, you can confirm
or clarify about this).

I stored the output (*txt , *stat and *.nc) in the sub-dir:
dr-5.2-neg_lon_res for negative longitude parameters and dr-5.2-pos_lon/
for positive ones respectively.

Your help clarifying this is appreciated.
Best Regards,
Ting

Hello Ting,

Just wanted to check in. Are you still having issue with the number
of
matched pairs produced in this Grid-Stat output you describe?

Thanks,
John

John,
Thanks for asking.
I didn't work on this since I submitted this ticket.
So, yes, if there are no changes on the MET codes, I think it is still
the
case.
Do you need me to double check it?
Regards,
Ting

Ting,

I went to take a look at this output on theia, but I don't have
permission
to see your home directory:

[John.H.Gotway at tfe02 ~]$ ls -lad /home/Ting.Lei
drwx------ 49 Ting.Lei meso 67584 Nov 9 17:39 /home/Ting.Lei

Could you please either change the permissions or place the data in a
spot
that I can access?

Thanks,
John

John,
Sorry,
I should have double checked on this.
Now their permissions have been changed to a+rx. that should work for
you.
Thanks a lot.

Subject: the differences when negative lon used (for MET 5.2) in the namelist
From: John Halley Gotway
Time: Wed Nov 09 12:09:00 2016

Ting,

I will say that defining a grid using longitudes that differ by 360
degrees
(positive versus negative) *should not* matter at all. The MET code
rescales all longitudes to be in the range -180 to 180.

However there is a difference in results but that's because your math
is
off by 10 degrees:

export RGD='"lambert 959 867 25.819 256.193 265.000 1.270 6371.2
25.000
25.000"'
export RGD='"lambert 959 867 25.819 -103.807 -105.000 1.270 6371.2
25.000
25.000"'

-103.87 + 360 = 256.193

*** BUT *** -105 + 360 = 255, not 265! So you should be using 255
instead
of 265.

FYI, I didn't notice this until I got finished testing this all out
using
the regrid_data_plane and plot_data_plane tools. I figured I might as
well
send you the commands I used as examples for your use in the future.

Thanks,
John

------------------------------------

I used the regrid_data_plane utility in MET to look for a difference
as
follows...

/scratch4/BMC/dtc/MET/met-5.2/bin/regrid_data_plane \
   /home/Ting.Lei/tmp/dr-
debug/lei_data_20161026/namrr.t06z.hi_impnest.hiresf17.tm00.grib2
\
   'lambert 959 867 25.819 -103.807 -105.000 1.270 6371.2 25.000
25.000' \
   lambert_neg_lon.nc \
   -field 'name="REFC"; level="L0";'

/scratch4/BMC/dtc/MET/met-5.2/bin/regrid_data_plane \
   /home/Ting.Lei/tmp/dr-
debug/lei_data_20161026/namrr.t06z.hi_impnest.hiresf17.tm00.grib2
\
   'lambert 959 867 25.819 256.193 265.000 1.270 6371.2 25.000 25.000'
\
   lambert_pos_lon.nc \
   -field 'name="REFC"; level="L0";'

And then I plotted the result:
   /scratch4/BMC/dtc/MET/met-5.2/bin/plot_data_plane
lambert_neg_lon.nc
lambert_neg_lon.ps 'name="REFC_L0"; level="(*,*)";'
   /scratch4/BMC/dtc/MET/met-5.2/bin/plot_data_plane
lambert_pos_lon.nc
lambert_pos_lon.ps 'name="REFC_L0"; level="(*,*)";'

Hi, John,
Thank you so much, while I should also say I really apologize for such
silly math mistake, though I had double checked a couple of time:).
Your patience and kindness are appreciated:).
