Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
I recently learned about MET and am excited to begin to use it.
However, I am having problems installing it (I am working with met-5.1_bugfix) . In short, when I try to make, I get "cannot find -lnetcdf_c++". The NetCDF C++ library does not exist, so the error makes sense. The problem is: I am using netcdf-4.4.0, and as I understand it I need to compile netcdf-cxx to get the NetCDF C++ library. When I compiled netcdf-4.4.0 I used "--disable-netcdf-4", as the MET instructions suggested, but when I try to compile netcdf-cxx it gives me an error saying it can only compile with netcdf-4 enabled.
My question is: will MET work if I compile netcdf with netcdf-4 enabled? Or is there another work around, or something I'm missing?
Thank you!

Laurel,
Unfortunately, met-5.1 is not compatible with the enhanced data model
in
NetCDF4. Adding NetCDF4 support is in our plans for the next release
of
MET.
For now, I'd suggest just using a legacy NetCDF3 build. It should be
pretty straightforward to download/compile locally:
wget ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/old/netcdf-3.6.2.tar.gz
Then follow the compilation instructions listed in the MET online
tutorial:
http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/support/online_tutorial/METv5.0/compilation/req_libs.php
Hopefully that helps. Just let us know what other issues or questions
arise.
Thanks,

Laurel,
That's great. Thanks for following up and letting me know. I'll go
ahead
and resolve this ticket now but just let us know if more questions or
issues arise in your use of MET.
Thanks,
John
