Hi John. 
I was trying to convert my ascii file into NC using ascii2nc tool. 

aditya at agniilap:~/Downloads$  ~/geeta/installs/met/bin/ascii2nc -v 2 ./precip24_final_20110423.ascii precip24.nc 
DEBUG 1: Config File: /home/aditya/geeta/installs/met/share/met/config/Ascii2NcConfig_default
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range'
  what():  basic_string::substr
Aborted (core dumped)
aditya at agniilap:~/Downloads$ 


got this error. 
sending you my ascii file. I am using MET5.0 now.

Hi Geeta.  Thank you for sending us your input ASCII file.

The problem is on this line (line #424):

ADPSFC TN178.20110423_030000    10.46    0079.39   -9999.00  61  24
-9999.00  NA       5.4

Please note that there is a period "." between the Station Id, TN178,
and
the Valid Time, 20110423_030000.  Once you remove this period, you
should
get a successful run.  Please let us know how it goes.
