Hello,

I am trying to run point_stat on GRIB2 data and encounter the following
error:

I am using prepbufr data as the observed data. I have provided the forecast
data file, observed data file, and PointStatConfig file in seroka_data on
your anonymous FTP site. Most likely the issue is a formatting
incompatibility within the GRIB2 file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Greg,

The reason for the error is that the GRIB2 discipline/parm_cat/parm
combination (GRIB2 codes, henceforth) is not present
in the following table:

MET uses the tables at these locations to map the GRIB2 codes to the
forecast variables specified by users in the config
file.  Even though you are not trying to verify this field, MET tries
to identify all records.  It is now clear that we
should consider making this situation a warning instead of an error,
since it can cause unnecessary interference.

Fortunately, we just added the capability in METv4.0 to specify your
own GRIB2 code mapping.  To do so, modify the file
$MET_BASE/data/table_files/grib2_vars_flat.txt, adding the GRIB2 codes
that correspond to the missing fields.  I added
the two mysterious fields to this table file and attached it.  Can you
please overwrite your version with the attached
one and then do a clean build of MET?  I was able to run point_stat on
your data once this change was made in my version.

Paul,

Your change worked perfectly. For some reason, when I did a clean
rebuild
of MET with your attached file it did not work correctly. However, I
went
ahead and made the two additions to my existing grib2_vars_flat.txt
and did
a clean rebuilt of MET and it worked out nicely.
