Initial Request

Good afternoon, me again,
Now I have woes with pb2nc
The results (in the directory /lfs0/projects/det/sref-emc/biasdown, on jet)
are:
bin/pb2nc gdas1.t18z.adpsfc.tm00.bufr_d.nr gdas1.t18z.adpsfc.tm00.bufr_d.nc
met-config-pb2nc.txt
Reading Config File: met-config-pb2nc.txt
Creating NetCDF File: gdas1.t18z.adpsfc.tm00.bufr_d.nc
Processing PrepBufr File: gdas1.t18z.adpsfc.tm00.bufr_d.nr
ERROR: process_pbfile() -> the observation time should remain the same for
all PrepBufr messages: 1307635200 != 1307631600
So, where did I get gdas1.t18z.adpsfc.tm00.bufr_d.nr?
http://nomads.ncdc.noaa.gov/data/gdas/201106/20110609/
Maybe some combination of stuff is in this file? Or, perhaps, I need to
tweak met-config-pb2nc.txt to screen those out?
I know, on the DTC web page, it informs me:
*** NOTE: The 18Z filenames are incorrect on this site. The date listed in
the filename is one day later than the observations actually contained in
the file. ***
But I am not sure the workaround for that

Brian,
This question mirrors almost exactly one we answered a couple of weeks
ago. Here's the link to that email exchange with gory details:
http://mailman.ucar.edu/pipermail/met_help/2011-August/001650.html
But to briefly summarize, MET can't read those
"gdas1.t18z.adpsfc.tm00.bufr_d.nr" files. It can only read the files
with "prepbufr" in their name, like:
http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/gfs/prod/gdas.20110905/gdas1.t06z.prepbufr.nr
But beware what quality_mark threshold you use since the GDAS folks
set some surface quality marks to 9 as a way of thinning the obs for
the data assimilation process. See the email exchange for more
info.
Hope that helps. Just let us know if more issues arise.
Thanks,
John
