  Initial Request

Hello,

I am running METv3.0.1 on a 32-bit RHEL5 OS. I am attempting to make a
netCDF file of GPSIPW observations in the prepbufr file for the NAM. I
execute:

> pb2nc nam.t00z.prepbufr.tm00.nr out.nc PB2NCConfig_default -v 10

But get:

> Reading Config File: PB2NCConfig_default
> Creating NetCDF File: out.nc
> Processing PrepBufr File: nam.t00z.prepbufr.tm00.nr

However, as far as I can tell, the dump file shows that there are valid
observations in the prepbufr file. What am I misunderstanding? Where
am I going wrong?

I have temporarily uploaded my configuration, input prepbufr, and dump
files to:

ftp://ftp.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/ssec/jordang/pb2nc/

Jordan,

Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I took a look at the
PB2NC config file and the GPSIPW ascii dump files you sent.

While we haven't used the GPS integrated precipitable water
observations in our verification work here, I understand why you would
be interested in doing so. Unfortunately, PB2NC does not currently
have the capability to extract those observation types. Instead, it's
set up to extract observations of type pressure, specific humidity,
temperature, height, U-wind, and V-wind - and derive a few
variables from those.

Regarding the larger of issue of PB2NC extracting additional
observations from PREPBUFR files, that's an area of development that
we're aware of. We'd like to enhance PB2NC to ensure that we're fully
accessing all observation types available in PREPBUFR, but haven't
been able to yet. Sorry for this lack of functionality.
