Hi,
In the MET v3.0.1 Users Guide it states that WIND can be used in the fcst_field for point_stat’s configuration file, and if the wind speed is not present in the input files then U and V will be used to construct the wind speed. Does this only work with Grib input? I’ve been trying to get it to work with input from pinterp and am having no luck. I am not sure if it is a syntax issue or the file format.
What I tried was setting fcst_field=[“WIND(0,0,*,*)”] amd obs_field=[“WIND/Z10”] as a first attempt to just pull the bottom model level. Ideally, I want to compare the wind from U10 and V10 out of WRF to the surface observations, but I figured I would start with the bottom model level to see if I could get that to work. Do I need to correct my syntax?
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
Unfortunately, MET will only derive wind speed from U and V for GRIB
input data. If you run your WRF NetCDF output
through the WRF post processor (WPP), that will produce GRIB data that
MET will read and use calculate wind speeds. At
this time, that is probably the easiest path to solve your problem.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
