Oops, the longitudes are also off ever so slightly-missed that. Maybe that's the problem?

Subject: MODE Grid Question

I am comparing two files using mode. Both files have been remapped to the same grid and comparing the grib headers they seem to match. See below:

Grid 1:

rec 1:4:date 2011062906 TCDC kpds5=71 kpds6=200 kpds7=0 levels=(0,0) grid=255 atmos col 0hr fcst:

  TCDC=Total cloud cover [%]

  timerange 1 P1 0 P2 0 TimeU 1 nx 192 ny 139 GDS grid 3 num_in_ave 0 missing 0

  center 57 subcenter 2 process 36 Table 2 scan: WE:SN winds(grid)

  Lambert Conf: Lat1 5.010000 Lon1 -129.000000 Lov -96.000000

      Latin1 60.000000 Latin2 30.000000 LatSP -90.000000 LonSP 0.000000

      North Pole (192 x 139) Dx 45.000000 Dy 45.000000 scan 64 mode 8

  min/max data 0 100 num bits 7 BDS_Ref 0 DecScale 0 BinScale 0

Grid 2:

rec 1:4:date 2011062906 CLAMT kpds5=163 kpds6=200 kpds7=0 levels=(0,0) grid=0 atmos col 0hr fcst:

  CLAMT=Cloud Amount (layer) [%]

  timerange 1 P1 0 P2 0 TimeU 1 nx 192 ny 139 GDS grid 3 num_in_ave 0 missing 0

  center 57 subcenter 2 process 29 Table 2 scan: WE:SN winds(grid)

  Lambert Conf: Lat1 5.010000 Lon1 -129.002000 Lov -96.000000

      Latin1 60.000000 Latin2 30.000000 LatSP -90.000000 LonSP 0.000000

      North Pole (192 x 139) Dx 45.000000 Dy 45.000000 scan 64 mode 8

  min/max data 0 99999 num bits 17 BDS_Ref 0 DecScale 0 BinScale 0

When I run MODE I get the following error:

Forecast File: /h/data/global/DCF/data_4/fcsts/t021/fcsts_t021_2011062906_000.GR1

Observation File: /h/data/global/DCF/data_TEST/grib_cld/t2/cld02a2011062906z.GR1

Match Config File: /sphome/qcteam/METv3.0/data/config/DCFModeConfig_45_WWMCA

Merge Config File: /sphome/qcteam/METv3.0/data/config/DCFModeConfig_45_WWMCA

ERROR: process_fcst_obs_files() -> The forecast and observation grids do not match.

The two files are attached.

Why the error?

Thanks

Bob Craig

Bob & Matt,

I agree with Matt. To adjust your cld_anal grid so that it is
consistent with that of cld_fcst, you can use the
following copygb command:

copygb \
  -g "255 3 192 139 5010 -129000 8 -96000 45000 45000 0 64 60000
30000" \
  -x cld_anal \
  cld_anal_rg

I reproduced your MODE error with your original files. Then, I
regridded cld_anal using copygb to the attached file and
MODE worked as expected. Please let me know if you have any
questions.

Thanks,

Paul

Hey guys,

This is John. I saw that Paul's response was only sent to met-help
and not to your email addresses directly. So I've included his
response below to make sure you get it.

Thanks for handling this Paul.

John

MODE worked as expected. Please let me know if you have any

Thanks,

Paul
