Jonathan,
When you run the "-bycase" job, you should always run it with the "-single" option and either the "-simple" or "-composite" option.
The output you see depends on which you choose:
-bycase -single -simple: gives you information about the individual simple objects
-bycase -single -composite: gives you information about the individual composite objects
Also, you can specify the "-fcst" and "-obs" options to get only the forecast or observation areas and counts.
The tool considers each unique forecast valid time to be a unique "case". Each line in the output summarizes the object areas and counts for that case. Please note if you have multiple forecasts
which share the same forecast valid time, they'd be lumped into the same case.
I know it's a bit confusing. We should probably take a closer look at this tool and figure out how to make the command line options more intuitive.
Do you understand what it's doing, or do you have more questions?
