Tang Jie,
Since you're asking about the BUFR format, I assume that you're wondering how you'd go about using your own observations within MET. Is that correct?
To answer your specific question, I have no information to offer about how you'd interface to the BUFR format. I know how to read BUFR files, but have never written one myself. Instead, I'd suggest
reformatting your observations in the intermediate NetCDF point observation format. Meaning, I'd suggest making your observations look like the output of the PB2NC tool. We posted a write-up on the
MET website describing this format: http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/docs/overview.php
HOWEVER, we will be modifying this format for the next release of MET in the spring of 2008 to simplify it a little. We will also be providing a new tool which will enable you to convert point
observations from a simple ASCII format into this NetCDF file format. You're welcome to reformat your observations into the current NetCDF format if you like, but please be aware that it will be
changed for METv1.1.
Here's a list of what we're planning to include in the next release: http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/support/future_releases/METv1.1/METv1.1_plans.php
Hope that answers your question.
Thanks,
John
