We look forward to seeing you on Friday! -The ATOC Colloquium Committee _________________________________________________ *How will Future Climate Change Impact Prescribed Fire Across the United States? * Alexandra Jonko (LANL) The use of prescribed fire to manage ecosystems now accounts for more than 50% of area burned annually across the United States. However, changes in temperature, humidity, and wind speed associated with future climate change will impact temporal and spatial patterns of fuel loads and their flammability, as well as fire safety. In this study, we combine climate projections with information on prescribed burning windows for ecoregions across the conterminous United States to compute the number of days when meteorological conditions allow for the safe and effective application of prescribed fire today and under future climate conditions. The resulting projections indicate fewer days with conditions suitable for prescribed burning across ecoregions of the Eastern United States due to rising maximum daily temperatures, but increased opportunities in the Northern and Northwestern United States, driven primarily by rising minimum temperatures and declining wind speeds. __________________________________________________ *Zoom login Information:* *Topic: ATOC Colloquium* *Time: Sep 1, 2023 11:00 AM Mountain Time (US and Canada)* *https://cuboulder.zoom.us/j/98582201579 * *Meeting ID: 985 8220 1579* *Passcode: ATOC* One tap mobile +17193594580,,98582201579# US +12532158782,,98582201579# US (Tacoma) Dial by your location ? +1 719 359 4580 US ? +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma) ? +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston) ? +1 669 444 9171 US ? +1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose) ? +1 253 205 0468 US ? +1 564 217 2000 US ? +1 646 558 8656 US (New York) ? +1 646 931 3860 US ? +1 689 278 1000 US ? +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC) ? +1 305 224 1968 US ? +1 309 205 3325 US ? +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) ? +1 360 209 5623 US ? +1 386 347 5053 US ? +1 507 473 4847 US Join by SIP ? 98582201579 at zoomcrc.com Join by H.323 ? 162.255.37.11 (US West) ? 162.255.36.11 (US East) ? 115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai) ? 115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad) ? 213.19.144.110 (Amsterdam Netherlands) ? 213.244.140.110 (Germany) ? 103.122.166.55 (Australia Sydney) ? 103.122.167.55 (Australia Melbourne) ? 149.137.40.110 (Singapore) ? 64.211.144.160 (Brazil) ? 149.137.68.253 (Mexico) ? 69.174.57.160 (Canada Toronto) ? 65.39.152.160 (Canada Vancouver) ? 207.226.132.110 (Japan Tokyo) ? 149.137.24.110 (Japan Osaka) Meeting ID: 985 8220 1579 Passcode: 166543 _______________________________________________________ *Andrew C. Hopefully, you?ll find something worthwhile in the events list below. *Do You Need Python in Your Life?* Sign up for our six-part series! It includes an overview of the Python programming language as needed for data science using variables, data structures, loops, conditional statements (old and new), and object-oriented methods (functions and classes). With this foundation we will explore open data, how to obtain it, how to explore, change, manipulate and visual it. This series is for people new to Python as well as seasoned veterans looking for the newer/better methods of using Python for data science.
