Description

The University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences. This is a 10-month appointment that anticipates supplementary summer salary from research funding. We seek to fill one position from candidates with backgrounds in atmospheric science with expertise or experience in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods (e.g., random forests, self-organizing maps, neural networks, or other supervised or unsupervised machine learning algorithms) to conduct weather/climate research. We especially encourage applications from candidates who use AI to conduct research related to synoptic-dynamic meteorology, atmospheric physics, extreme weather, or weather-climate interactions, although all areas in weather and climate are welcome to apply. Candidates whose research specialization complements existing research programs in the department are particularly encouraged to apply. The new hire will be a member of the UAlbany AI Institute.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in atmospheric science or closely related fields, have outstanding records of publications, have done AI-related research, and address how AI will be integral to their research programs. The candidates may also address the use of ethical AI practices to enhance their weather/climate research, and goals of broadening participation in underrepresented groups to build a diverse AI workforce. They will be expected to maintain an externally-funded research program and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in atmospheric and environmental sciences.
