Good afternoon,

The journal Inside Higher Ed
<https://www.insidehighered.com/?utm_source=Inside+Higher+Ed&utm_campaign=7aece3e2ae-WNU_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_1fcbc04421-7aece3e2ae-236392362&mc_cid=7aece3e2ae&mc_eid=124997704f>
is a good place to get your finger on the pulse of what is going on in
academia. It also has good career development resources and tips.

Here is an article about the challenges
<https://www.insidehighered.com/advice/2020/10/23/latinx-scholar-describes-challenges-she-confronted-seeking-tenure-opinion>
that one person confronted while seeking tenure. It's good to be aware of
this both for yourself and for others, if you happen to be a colleague of a
person of color.

You'll see on the home page an article on The Emotional Toll of Racism
<https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2020/10/23/racism-fuels-poor-mental-health-outcomes-black-students>
that is very good.

We have to do better as a community to ensure safe, supportive
environments and to address hostile comments and threatening behaviors.

I hope that you have a restful and relaxing weekend. Stay warm!

Valerie
