Dear Colleagues,

we are organizing the 8th ISAC Summer School. This year the topic of the
school will be on "*Structure of precipitation systems: Advances in Remote
Sensing and Modeling*"

The school will take place at Hotel Orsa Maggiore (
http://www.orsamaggiore.it/) in Castro Marina, a very nice marine resort
close to Lecce, in the south-eastern corner of Italy, from 22 to 26 June
2020.

The purpose of the Summer School is to provide an intensive and
comprehensive review of the current knowledge of precipitation, considering
in particular its remote sensing retrievals from satellite, radar and
radiometer systems. Also, the formation mechanisms and the structure of
precipitating systems will be discussed. The school is primarily addressed
to PhD, Master students in atmospheric sciences, post-doc, researchers and
operational forecasters from regional and national meteorological agencies.

The lecture and seminar program is as follows:

*Gianpaolo Balsamo* (ECMWF, Reading, UK)
*Satellite data to constrain the water cycle in weather and climate.*

*Steven J. Goodman* (GOES-R Program Senior Advisor/Thunderbolt Global
Analytics)
*Use of satellite data in nowcasting.*

*Christopher Kidd* (NASA/GSFC and University of Maryland, USA)
*Precipitation remote sensing from space.*

*Vincenzo Levizzani* (CNR - ISAC, Bologna, Italy)
*Precipitation formation mechanisms: microphysics and cloud structure.*

*Richard Rotunno* (NCAR, Boulder, CO, USA)
*Structure of severe precipitation systems*.

For the registration and any further information please visit our website

Registration will be closed on April 30, 2020. Based on CV, a maximum of 40
students will be admitted.
