Good morning,

For those of you attending the AGU meeting in December, here is a session
on the transition from being a postdoc to being a faculty member at a PUI.
Sounds good!

-Valerie

Dear Val,

I am co-convening a Town Hall session
<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fagu.confex.com%2Fagu%2Ffm18%2Fmeetingapp.cgi%2FSession%2F56000&data=02%7C01%7Cstraubk%40susqu.edu%7C442373dba74e4e1004c108d64ef8a0c2%7Cf78aa315d9b34b8c9d672e8fefdb2d07%7C1%7C0%7C636783227085684378&sdata=2fKtfa2FuKoXr0xJbrBsTiuwfSapfjqXgP7YKpWshYc%3D&reserved=0>
called
“The Adventures, Opportunities, and Challenges of Being a Geoscience
Faculty Member at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution” and was wondering
if you might be able/willing to encourage any grad students and/or postdocs
in your network to attend?

The panelists in our Town Hall will be:

   - Kristi Burkholder (Assistant Professor, Stonehill College)
   - Karen Castle (Professor and Associate Dean of Faculty, Bucknell
   University)
   - Ben Kopec (Visiting Assistant Professor, St. Olaf and Gustavus
   Adolphus College)
   - Michele LaVigne (Assistant Professor, Bowdoin College)
   - Kathy Straub (Professor, Susquehanna University)

The description of our session is: “The rewards of being a faculty member
at a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI) are many. However, the
transition from graduate student or postdoc (usually at a large research
institution) to faculty member at a PUI can be a challenging one.
Information about the application process, teaching expectations, and
research support can be hard to find. During this 1-hour town hall
meeting, PUI faculty members at various career stages will share their
stories, their tips for successfully obtaining a position at a small
school, and their advice on making a successful transition. Questions from
the audience will be accepted and encouraged.”

Thanks for your consideration,

Kathy Straub
