Subject: USGS Mendenhall Post-Doc Opportunities
To:

Dear Colleagues,
I am passing along the link to the USGS Mendenhall Post-Doctoral Fellowship
website: https://geology.usgs.gov/postdoc/opps/research.html
The USGS recently posted 17 research opportunities for PhD students who
have recently completed or are near completion of their PhD. These
opportunities partner recent PhD graduates with USGS research groups for 24
month appointments to work on USGS research projects.

If the timing works and if one of these projects is relevant to your
research specialty, please feel free to contact me for more information or
contact the research advisor(s) for the project of interest - as suggested
in the "Role of Research Advisors" section. Applicants need to have
obtained their PhD in the last 5 years, or be near completion of their
PhD. The application deadline is January 18, 2019

The importance of establishing a dialogue with the research scientist
cannot be overstated because it serves two functions: 1) through that
dialogue you will be able to develop more specific, relevant elements for
your proposal/application, and 2) because these Mendenhall positions
represent important research investments for the USGS scientists, those
scientist mentors are more likely to choose applicants who have shown
initiative by reaching out to the scientist and getting deeply familiar
with the project goals and requirement.

Best Regards,
Ben Gutierrez
