[Grad-postdoc-assn] Reminder: Thompson Lecture Series 20-22 March, 2013

Hi Postdocs,

This is just a reminder that the Thompson Lecture Series is just a few 
days away now.  The full details are below.  However, I want to draw 
your attention to a few important details.

1 - Potluck (21 March):  Please sign up as soon as possible for a 
dish.  After all, it isn't really a potluck if we have nothing to eat!

2 - Dinner (20 March):  There are still spots available for dinner at

3 - Individual Meetings:  Regardless of your specific area of 
research, individual meetings are a great way to get career advice and

On 20-22 March, Professor Peter Vitousek from Stanford University will
be visiting NCAR as the spring 2013 ASP Thompson Series lecturer.
Professor Vitousek is an ecologist and is particularly known for his
work on the nitrogen cycle.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Thompson Lecture Series (TLS), it
is held twice per year (spring and fall).  The lecturer visits NCAR 
for
several days during which he/she provides two seminars and meets with
individual postdocs. This is a great opportunity to meet one-on-one 
with
a well respected scientist and discuss topics that extend beyond just
science (i.e., career advice).

.  Note that all postdocs are encouraged and welcome to attend.

Numerous times have been set aside for individual meetings with

Lastly, there will be two dinners with Professor Vitousek during his
visit to NCAR.  The first of which will be on Wednesday evening (20
March) and the second is scheduled for Thursday evening (21 March). 
 The
former will be held at a local restaurant (Agave) while the latter 
will
be a potluck dinner at the Mesa Lab's Damon Room.  If you are 
interested
in attending the dinner on Wednesday, please email Gulnur Dogan
(gulnur at ucar.edu).  For the potluck, note that families are welcome to
attend and please plan on bringing an appetizer, side dish, or dessert
