Health
*President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate Dr. Francis S.
Collins as Director of the National Institutes of Health. The NPA is
pleased with the nomination and looks forward to working with Dr.

National Postdoctoral Association wants to recognize the significant

research enterprise and, at the same time, to increase awareness of this
contribution. Please join us by celebrating the *first annual National

*The NPA is seeking six committed and energetic individuals to serve on
its NPA Board of Directors for two-year terms. Service on the Board is

with a dynamic group. Service on the Board is not just for postdocs, so
non-postdocs are strongly encouraged to apply. Nominations must be

applications to host its 2011 Annual Meeting. The NPA Annual Meeting is
the only national meeting dedicated to the postdoctoral community and
provides a venue for exchange of best practices and networking. To

*5. Negotiating the Ideal Faculty Position Workshop
*Rice University is strongly committed to increasing the diversity of
science and engineering faculty and students. As part of this goal, Rice
University is sponsoring an exciting workshop for senior women graduate
students and postdocs who are interested in pursuing an academic career.
The workshop, "Negotiating the Ideal Faculty Position," will be held
October 18-19, 2009, in Houston, TX. The workshop is designed to
provide participants hands-on experience to enhance their knowledge of
and ability to find the right faculty position. Airfare, hotel
accomodations, and meals provided at no cost to workshop participants.
