Hi Everyone,

The Earth System Documentation (ES-DOC) project
(http://earthsystemcog.org/projects/es-doc-models/) would like to
invite you to a demonstration of its metadata Viewer and Comparator on
February 27. These tools are at a stage in their development where
community feedback is critical. They are being used to support CMIP5
and other model intercomparison projects, and your participation may
help to improve the experience of many users. The demonstration is
scheduled for an hour, but may go longer depending upon the number of
questions.

If you would like to see the demonstration but cannot attend on this
date, please write es-doc-contact at list.woc.noaa.gov and we will try to
schedule another showing for you.

If you have comments you would like to provide following the
demonstration, please write es-doc-support at list.woc.noaa.gov.

Background:

a) The CIM or Common Information Model is the metadata standard
developed to describe and document the Earth system models used in
CMIP5. The CIM as a community standard is continuing to evolve and was
recently used for the 2012 Dynamical Core Model Intercomparison
Project (DCMIP).

b) The CIM Viewer renders CIM metadata in a user friendly, easily
navigable way. It can be invoked from any website with only a few
lines of code. It is currently being used by the Earth System Grid
Federation (ESGF) and Earth System CoG projects.

An online demonstration of the CIM Viewer is available here:
http://www.purl.org/org/es-doc/plugins/test/jscim.demo

c) The CIM Comparator takes several CIM documents and allows the users
to select various models, model components, and attributes to compare
scientific properties in common across the values chosen. Like the
CIM viewer, it can be invoked from a website with just a few lines of
code.

Attendees of this demonstration will receive:

1) A brief introduction to ES-DOC

2) Using examples from CMIP5, a walk through of the Viewer showing:

* Model descriptions
* Contact information
* Citations
* Grids
* A model component tree
* Model component scientific properties
* Ensemble information
* Related data quality information from DKRZ

3) A walk through of the Comparator showing:

* How to select models to compare
* How common model components (e.g. which selected models have a land
surface component) are indicated
* How to select attributes to compare
* Options for saving comparisons

4) A description of future plans for ES-DOC and its associated tools
