Dear Jennifer and all,
concerning: "While checking on these gaps, I noticed that not all
variables in an atomic dataset span the same time range" ...
For some datasets, we requested different periods for different
variables. For example, for frequency="day" only a subset of the
variables were requested for all times and experiments. See
one of the links under the "CMIP5 Model Output" heading of the "guide":
http://cmip-pcmdi.llnl.gov/cmip5/guide_to_cmip5.html
or go directly to
http://cmip-pcmdi.llnl.gov/cmip5/docs/standard_output.pdf and look at
the "day" table.
Not sure whether this covers all the cases you've found.
Best regards,
Karl
