[Go-essp-tech] Production CMIP5 Gateway Federation

Hi all,

If you are directly addressed on this email it's because you are listed at http://esgf.org/wiki/Cmip5Status as a contact for a Production CMIP5 Federation Gateway or Datanode.  If you think the contacts need updating please email me and/or update the wiki page.

1. All contacts should join esg-support at earthsystemgrid.org and make sure that email address is listed as the Gateway's "Contact Us" link configurable in <GATEWAY_HOME>/conf/messages.properties.  Contact Eric Neinhhouse <ejn at ucar.edu> to join the list -- Eric, I think we can assume that the addressees here can be added automatically.

2. We have 7 Production Gateways listed on the Cmip5Status Page: PCMDI, DKRZ, NCI, NCAR, BADC, JPL, ORNL and NERC.  On the telco yesterday we discussed what should be in place for a gateway to be fully in production.  These were:
  a) Gateway version 1.2.0
  b) All Production Gateways linked from the homepage
 c) Harvesting CMIP5 records from production gateways
  d) All test data removed from Gateways

I think we are on course for a) but b)-d) may not be in place for when Dean wants to announce the "beta-release" of CMIP5 data which I believe is close of play today LA time.  Therefore I suggest we have a 2-tier list of gateways on each homepage similar to what is currently at http://cmip-gw.badc.rl.ac.uk.  Those meeting all the criteria in the first section and the others in the next.  Presently I believe the first section would be: PCMDI, DKRZ, BADC and JPL (once production gateway lists are updated).

I think live data is available at BADC only so far, so the important thing is that you are harvesting from us.  You can do this by:

1. Login as rootAdmin
2. Select Admin tab
3. Select "Manage Harvesting of OAI Records"
4. Select "Add harvest job"
5. Enter "http://cmip-gw.badc.rl.ac.uk/oai/repository.htm" as the URL, choose a name and continue
6. Select Format "rdf", set "CMIP5".  DO NOT select more than one set if offered, it won't work.  the format is also vital.
7. Select poll interval and continue.  You can then manually execute the harvest

Of course we should also setup harvesting jobs from the other production gateways so that when data is published it propagates throughout the federation.
