Control vocabularies have not changed -- though I think we need some clarification in the DRS document. The current document says that DRS component names will not contain and underscore, but CMOR2 implementation combines the variable name and the MIP table to build a "variable_id" name using an underscore. The clarification here is to indicate in some way that "variable_id" is a compound component containing a single underscore.
