Hi Luca,

There's a short technology proof of concept project MashMyData (http://code.google.com/p/mashmydata/) that we're involved in here that could be relevant.  We're looking at e-Science Central a hosted solution for scientific workspaces as part of this: http://www.esciencecentral.co.uk/
