Hi Everyone,

On 12/17/09 the Curator team conducted its latest demonstration of the developmental state of the model metadata display within ESG-CET gateway. Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks to the METAFOR group who allowed us to use part of their telecon for the demonstration. Attached is a screen shot of the portal for those that could not attend the demonstration. The following items were covered:

* A general overview of what attributes are displayed under what tabs in order to
refresh everyone's memory.
* A status report on the changes requested at our last demonstration.
* A discussion of Curator's developmental timeline.
* A demonstration of the new "always-on" component navigation system.
* A look at the new subtabs.
* A preview of how Metafor scientific properties will appear.

PREVIOUS ACTION ITEMS COMPLETED:
The following action items from the September 30, 2009 demonstration have been
implemented:

1) Create an "always-on" component navigation capability.
2) Move "Year released" from the technical properties tab to the basic properties tab.
3) Remove links to components in the grid tree.
4) Fix an issue with the esg.owl file, which restored the latest file with all corrections made to the definitions.

CARRY OVERS

1) Add a description of the date format to the definitions of X_StartDate & X_EndDate.
2) Change the simulation search on the search interface so that simulations are only associated with full models - sub-components of simulations won't be returned as search results (Luca).
3) Add definitions to the targets on the search interface somehow (Luca).

NEW ACTION ITEMS:

1) Remove version from the component tree.
2) Add discipline to the component tree.
3) Split technical properties into two accordions, one for general information and one for configuration information specific to the run.
4) Find out how METAFOR is planning to handle output variables.
5) Get a sample dataset from GFDL so we can demonstrate linking metadata to datasets within the CMIP5 example.
6) Find out if and how the current go-essp-tech discussion on versioning affects us (e.g. will we need to version the model metadata).
7) Find out if the current go-essp-tech discussion on replication affect us.
8) Remove the hasExperiment from the example's subcomponents to more accurately reflect what we anticipate in the questionnaire.
9) Verify with Luca which OWL files are loaded into the main portal and make sure there are none in there that should not be.
10) Talk with Luca and others about the search text on the main gateway interface. Is there a way we can suggest that the advanced search also includes the ability to browse metadata about the models and experiments?

A summary of the discussions:

a) Sylvia was asked to provide an update on Curator's timelines. Sylvia reported that a detailed summary is in the works but that in general Curator is targeting 20 February (ESG Release Candidate 1) to have all CMIP5 functionality into ESG. This is in preparation for the February and March releases of the ESG-CET Gateway. Eric then reported that they intend to release the questionnaire ~ 1 Feb and anticipate receiving the first results mid-march.

b) Eric thought that subcomponents of simulations that are also of type simulation was confusing. We are still considering whether this is something people will get used to or whether something needs to be changed.

c) Eric thought that having the physical domain for subcomponents beyond the upper most realms was repetitious. Eric suggested this information be removed from the tree and placed into some sort of hover mechanism. Cecelia was concerned that this might be non-intuitive for users and conflict with other hover mechanisms in the display. It was decided to keep the physical domain for now and also add in the discipline.

d) Sylvia indicated she needed to get started on implementing boundary conditions, initial conditions, coupling, and conformance and wanted to know who the Metafor points of contact were for those items. Eric indicated that for coupling it would be Marie-Pierre and Rupert. For boundary conditions, initial conditions, and conformance, it would be Charlotte.

e) Don gave the group a summary of ESG release timetable. This is viewable on ESG's wiki
