Dear All

The CLRC Data Portal version 3 has just been released and can be tested at
http://esc.dl.ac.uk:9000/dataportal/index.html. You'll need a Globus
certificate for this which you can obtain from http://ca.grid-support.ac.uk/
"Request a Certificate" button (you will need to use Netscape 4.79
apparently).

The new version may be downloaded as follows:

http://esc.dl.ac.uk:9000/dist/dataportal/v3/dataportal-v3.tar.gz
http://esc.dl.ac.uk:9000/dist/dataportal/v3/dataportal-v3.zip

note each is around 45MB.

Version 3 features include:

- provides access to metadata and data across a number of facilities
- user access control to each facility and it's metadata and data
- standard markup language to describe scientific metadata
- persistent user shopping basket that can store links to data
- use of web services technology
- authentication using Globus certificates

Comments gratefully received.
Many thanks
The Data Portal Team

ps: for those people without certificates and for a general idea of how the
portal works, you can test version 2 of the Data Portal at
http://esc.dl.ac.uk:9000/index.html
