 variability of benthic and water column respiration in Penn Cove, WA, a terminal inlet of Puget Sound prone to seasonal hypoxia. The student will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers at WWU, the University of Washington, and the University of British

 Columbia studying the potential influence of anthropogenic nutrient loading on hypoxia in the Salish Sea, and the physical and biogeochemical processes that lead to hypoxia and reoxygenation. A successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in environmental

 science or a physical science, preferably including coursework or research experience in oceanography, lab chemistry, quantitative data analysis, physics, and calculus. The student will be primarily advised by Dr. Shull. Interested applicants should reach
