seek two individuals at the PhD or post-doctoral level to join a </span><a href="https://www.schmidtsciences.org/vicc/"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'Segoe UI',sans-serif ;">recently-funded project</span></a><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'Segoe UI',sans-serif ;"> to explore the
effects of rapid permafrost thaw (i.e., thermokarst) on the global carbon
cycle. The successful candidates will work to quantify carbon dioxide and
methane emissions from thaw-affected lakes and streams across diverse
geographic gradients, with a focus on source quantification via isotopic and
compositional methods, and broader extrapolation via geospatial techniques. The
successful applicants will join established field programs in the western
Canadian Arctic, working directly with a broad suite of collaborators including
scientists at the University of Alberta (Drs. </span><a href="http://www.landoceanbiogeochemistry.ca/"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'Segoe UI',sans-serif ;">Suzanne Tank</span></a><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'Segoe UI',sans-serif ;">, </span><a href="https://caws.ualberta.ca/"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'Segoe UI',sans-serif ;">David Olefeldt</span></a><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'Segoe UI',sans-serif ;">, and </span><a href="https://cms.eas.ualberta.ca/froeselab/"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'Segoe UI',sans-serif ;">Duane Froese</span></a><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:'Segoe UI',sans-serif ;">), scientific

have a strong background in biogeochemistry, aquatic chemistry, hydrology, or
related disciplines, with experience undertaking fieldwork in remote locations.
Past experience measuring gas flux from aquatic or terrestrial systems, strong
quantitative and geospatial skills, and previous northern field experience are
