Description:

The Department of Biology and Environmental Studies Program at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) are seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a research program related to Conservation Science and Management.
A Ph.D. in Biology (or a field broadly related to conservation science) and postdoctoral experience are required. This position will begin August 18, 2025.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic Department of Biology with strengths in applied ecology, cellular and molecular biology and discipline-based education research. Our faculty is comprised of 21 tenured- or tenure-track and 7
instructor lines. The Department serves over 900 undergraduate Biology majors and 25 M.S. Biology graduate students. The Omaha metro contains about one million people, and there are 1.3 million people living within 50 miles of UNO. The new faculty member is
expected to establish an active, externally-supported research program focused on conservation science and management of the Great Plains. This position will support research and student success in our growing emphasis on applied ecology of the Great Plains.
Research will directly contribute to pressing conservation needs that will inform conservation decisions in our state, such as the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project and the Endangered Species Act and Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The successful candidate’s expertise
will capitalize on current opportunities and will grow future opportunities to enhance research collaborations and teaching activities within the Department of Biology, Environmental Studies, and faculty in other UNO departments and at other campuses within
the University of Nebraska system. As part of these possible collaborations, the successful candidate will have opportunities associated with UNO’s investments in the Glacier Creek Preserve and University system-wide partnerships including the Daugherty Water
for Food Global Institute and the Nebraska Water Center (http://waterforfood.nebraska.edu). The standard workload assignment in the Department of Biology is 25% research:75% teaching with opportunities to adjust the ratio with research funding and productivity.
The successful candidate will contribute to an introductory biology or environmental science course and senior/graduate level courses related to conservation science and management for students in biology and environmental science. Mentorship of undergraduate
and graduate student research is expected. UNO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, commensurate with the successful candidate’s background and experience.
