<p>ROLE TITLE: Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Sustainability</p>
<p>POSITION REPORTS TO: Environmental Science and Sustainability Department</p>
<p><strong>Summary of Position</strong></p>
<p>The Department of Environmental Science and Sustainability (ESS) at
Allegheny College is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor position beginning August 2025. The department seeks
candidates with expertise in sustainability solutions utilizing multiple
tools and disciplinary perspectives to understand interactions between
natural and social systems. We are particularly interested in
interdisciplinary teachers and scholars with experience including, but
not limited to, the following topical areas: environmental education and
communication, urban ecology and green infrastructure, environmental
issues in the Global South. The successful candidate will demonstrate a
strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and engaging students in
research.</p>
<p>Teaching responsibility is 6 course equivalencies per year and will
include core courses in the department’s curriculum and upper-level
courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. In addition, all Allegheny
faculty teach in the college-wide speaking and writing seminars and
will contribute to the holistic advising model, which can involve
first-year advising all the way through to senior project advising. A
Ph.D. in a related interdisciplinary field and previous teaching
experience is strongly preferred.</p>
<p>Allegheny is uniquely situated to support teaching and research in
environmental science and sustainability, with an institutional
commitment to sustainable development and carbon neutrality and a
nationally recognized department of Environmental Science and
Sustainability. The ESS program has a robust curriculum to support
student research, internships, international education, and civic
engagement in Pennsylvania, nationally, and throughout the world.</p>
