<div dir="ltr">The Climate & Cryosphere research group at Arizona State University, within the School of Ocean Futures, is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position to begin in Fall 2025. Broadly, our group uses geologic records (e.g., lake sediments and glacial landforms), alongside historical and space-based observational data, to investigate how the Earth system responds to natural and anthropogenic forcings. We place a particular emphasis on understanding the long-term climate and environmental history of the Arctic, and how the Arctic cryosphere (e.g., mountain glaciers, ice sheets, lake and sea ice) evolves and interacts with other components of the global climate system under sustained warming. Much of our work is inherently cross-disciplinary and involves field-, lab-, and computing-based research. As a group, we also value service and creative communication of climate science to broad audiences.

Master of Science degree in climate science, glaciology, geology, Earth
science, or a related discipline.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos,sans-serif"><b><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif">Research experience:</span></b><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif"> Some prior
experience in field, lab and/or computational research is preferred. For example,
experience in Geographic Information Systems and software (e.g., ArcGIS,
Google Earth Engine), and remote sensing is favorable.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:Aptos,sans-serif"><b><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif">Technical skills:</span></b><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif"> Some prior
experience in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, and/or R.</span></li>
