winter season (November thru May). These positions require the ability to pay close attention to detail, the ability to hike over steep, uneven terrain, the ability to carry 40 lbs, a valid driver’s license, and a good driving record. Preference will be given

<p class="MsoNormal">The Caspar Creek Experimental Watersheds are a cooperative research project of PSW and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). Research focuses on measurement and evaluation of the effects of forest management
activities on watershed processes within the unique coast redwood landscape. We are currently monitoring effects of the third experimental harvest, which was completed in 2019. Hirees will work under the supervision of a hydrologist. More information can be

<p class="MsoNormal">This full-time position will support lab work in Arcata, CA, where we process water samples from Caspar Creek. Primary duties include determining suspended sediment concentrations and turbidity of water samples, determining soil sample
dry fractions, and general lab upkeep and maintenance. Approximately 10-20% of the work will be computer-based data reviews to ensure long-term data quality. The hiree may also need to travel to assist in the field during rainy periods. Travel costs incurred
for these trips will be covered by the government. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The Arcata position will be located at the PSW office in Arcata, CA. Arcata is located along the northern California coast a few hours north of the Caspar Creek Experimental Watersheds. Arcata is home to about 18,500 people, many of which
are students at Cal Poly-Humboldt. Arcata also hosts a hospital, community college, public schools for K-12, and a variety of shopping facilities. Housing rentals typically range from $1000-$2000 per month. Government housing is not available in Arcata.

<p class="MsoNormal">FORT BRAGG:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This full-time position will support field data collection in the Caspar Creek Experimental Watersheds, located on Jackson Demonstration State Forest in Mendocino County, CA. Primary duties include collecting hydrologic, geomorphic, and
ecological data. Up to 10% of the work will be lab- or office work.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Experience with hydrologic instrumentation and dataloggers and a willingness to work in a wildland setting during inclement weather is requisite. Experience with DC electronics, total station survey equipment, GPS, and GIS are also desired.
The winter work schedule is based on weather-related data collection and may vary week to week.

<p class="MsoNormal">This position will be based at the Pacific Southwest Research Station office in Fort Bragg, CA, which is located along the northern California coast about midway between San Francisco and the Oregon border. Historically a lumber and fishing
town, Fort Bragg has become economically more dependent on tourism. Fort Bragg provides services for the coastal population of about 25,000, and hosts a hospital, public schools for K-12, a community college campus, and a variety of shopping facilities. Housing
rentals typically range from $1000-$2000 per month. Government housing in offsite barracks may be available.<o:p></o:p></p>
