Do you have a passion for tropical clouds, convection and climate change? Do you want to work in an open, collaborative and international environment to resolve long-standing questions of fundamental climate science? Then we have an exciting PhD position
for you at Wageningen University & Research in The Netherlands!

The tropical oceans are blanketed by shallow convective clouds, which organise into striking patterns that cool the planet. How sensitive this cooling is to changes in climate is a central uncertainty in projections of future climate itself. In this project,
you will contribute to solving this challenge by studying observations, large-eddy simulations and global models of unprecedented resolution, to develop new theory for how shallow clouds
organise.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious candidate with a strong background in atmospheric science, physics, mathematics, engineering or a related field, who loves to work on challenging, theoretical problems, with numerical simulations and with large
data sets. You will work in an open-science oriented, international community with strong ties to projects across The Netherlands and Europe.
